Week 3: Getting Walking

I love walking to places. In a busy city like Mumbai, walking is usually the fastest way to get to a nearby place. Also, we consciously don’t own a car, so sometimes, that pushes us to walk because getting a rickshaw to agree to going to a place that’s 500 meters away, is an act in vain.

That being said, I will also admit that I avoid getting out of the house. I don’t enjoy walking through traffic, in hot and humid weather, to the noise of loud honking. I prefer to stay indoors and live in my own world. Which leads to very little exercise, unless I consciously decide to work out (which is rare).

I realize how little exercise I get. This is why, for week 3, I’m going to challenge myself to walking 10,000 steps a day.

Now, just to make it clear, there is no science that supports this magical number and the theory that reaching it makes you healthier (there’s an alternative though, which is backed by science).

Despite that, I’m challenging myself to do this because any exercise is good exercise compared to no exercise. Right? And I want to measure it with a goal, so 10,000 steps it is.
